Overview
Throughout the summer of 2022, I aided Canix’s principle UX Design Lead with quick turnover weekly design projects and development handoff. My additional solo project was focused on redesigning the mobile app experience by creating a new design system and applying concise user flows.
I collaborated with various departments across the company, including the sales team, developers, and the founder/CEO, to craft a compelling and valuable product for our users.
What is Canix?
Canix is the premier ERP software designed specifically for the cannabis industry. Canix enables cultivators, manufacturers, and distributors to outpace the competition by streamlining operations, cutting labor expenses, and enhancing efficiency.
During the cannabis cultivation process, companies are required to report all data to the government, a task facilitated by Canix in a helpful and powerful manner.
Featured below are some of the numerous small projects I worked on to update the existing system and interface or add new features.
Allowing users to transfer products
Developed a system enabling companies to attach multiple products with a delivery and seamlessly transport them across various locations.
I devised a streamlined user flow that prominently featured all essential information required for government compliance. Through this design, users can effortlessly include specific orders for transportation while separately adding new packages, granting them flexibility in transporting various items.
Given the stringent regulations governing cannabis transportation, I ensured upfront clarity and editability regarding predetermined routes, which drivers were mandated to adhere to without deviation. Additionally, to meet other compliance standards, I meticulously created locations to highlight specified durations and arrival times.
Tracking and Reporting Environmental Data
While cultivating plants, it is crucial to consider various environmental factors to ensure optimal product quality. Given that cannabis cultivation predominantly occurs indoors, different sensors can be deployed throughout the environment facilitates to track data.
I designed an overview page to showcase all relevant data affecting plant growth, categorized by color for clarity. Complemented by summary cards positioned at the top, users swiftly grasp essential information.
Examining the chart below empowers users to discern general trends over time and comprehend the impact of various factors on their product's growth.
Understanding Product Stages and Development
I devised this user flow to maintain clarity throughout the iterative development process, which typically involves multiple stages.
This page provides users with a visual representation of the entire output process, utilizing color and spacing to highlight the current stage effectively.
Incorporating a comprehensive view of the process was crucial, facilitated by developing a nested table view to present precise data. I paid meticulous attention to detail to ensure all data was accurately presented to meet government compliance standards.
The inclusion of key summary cards at the top of the screen enables users to swiftly assess information and make informed decisions efficiently.
Data Retention
Given the abundance of relevant information, I created this side panel to spotlight key trackers, aiding users in understanding specific indicators. Recognizing the overwhelming nature of spreadsheets, I intentionally included this overlay separation to facilitate user comprehension.
Developing this design enabled me to grasp and implement new text hierarchy standards, enhancing users' ability to visualize crucial information effectively.

To enhance the company's design system, I crafted new icons to be integrated across the platform.
Leveraging Figma's vectoring capabilities, I conceptualized and designed over 20 unique icons.
Reflection
Interning at Canix proved to be an immensely enriching experience, acquainting me with the dynamic pace inherent in an ERP startup. I found myself regularly transitioning between projects while engaging with developers, refining my ability to articulate design choices effectively. Directly interfacing with the design lead provided invaluable insights into crafting a company's identity through design, and honed my skills in communicating with senior stakeholders, including the CEO and Founder.
